Looking for something fun to do for you and your baby? There are lots of playgroups and children's activities available in the Keys. Please feel free to contact us if you know of other activities that should be included on our page.

Breastfeeding Support Groups in Key West

These groups offer assistance on breastfeeding and nutrition available from Breastfeeding Consultant Angelica Mendaros, each Wednesday.  Angelica speaks English and Spanish.

    The Breastfeeding Support group meets during Toddler Story Time at the Key West Library.

Tot Time is a free program that meets once a month, led by Leah Stockton, the FKHSC Community Liaison.  Bring your little ones (age five and under) and spend an hour having fun. You will connect with other parents and caregivers in your area and discover ways to combine playtime with learning.  It's held 1st Thursday of the month at 10:30 am in the Gato Building Conference Rooms at 1100 Simonton St, Key West. Join in our fun with:

  •  Music & Dance
  •  Guest speakers
  •  Healthy snacks
  •  Parenting resources

Preschool Story Hour at the Key West Library is geared for ages 3 to 5 years.  Story hour is a creative and interactive program. This is a stand-up program and the kids are encouraged to do so. Story hour often includes snacks and a craft activity after the story.  Expecting parents and siblings are welcome.  Meets Fridays and Saturdays from 11 am - noon.

Toddler Story Time at the Key West Library is for kids ages 0 to 2 years. It is a “lap-sit” program. Books geared for infants to 2 years of age are used, with bright pictures, rhyme and rhythm.  Expecting parents and siblings are welcome.  Wednesdays, 10:30-11:30 am.  Breastfeeding and nutrition questions can be addressed to Breastfeeding Consultant Angelica Mendaros, who will be available during Story Time on Wednesdays.  

Toddlers Story and Craft Hour is held at the Big Pine Library, 213 Key Deer Boulevard, on Thursdays from 10-11 am.  Call the library for more details.

Toddler Time at Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden meets every Tuesday 10-11 am. Bring your 2-4 y/o to the Garden for our weekly story time and sing along. Toddler Time will promote early childhood literacy through special nature and environmental themed books and songs that will get your child excited about the outdoors. Light snacks will be provided, a parent/caregiver must be present. Story Time is free, however regular admission prices to the Garden will apply for activities in the Garden after Story Time.  More details available here.

Fort Adventures: Parent and Me Class by Key West Art & Historical Society meets every Thursday at 10 am.  How does a play date at a 150-year-old fort sound? Each class will focus on a specific theme that includes art, science, math and building. After a group circle time, Ms. Jennie will fill your morning with engaging activities. Enjoy the Imagination Playground, water play and story time in the spectacular setting of the Martello tower.  $10-$15 per week, more details here.  

Music Together in the Keys is a 10 week course of mixed-age music and movement program for newborns, infants, toddlers (up to 4 years old) and the grown-ups who love them. There is more information on their website or call 305-797-1999, St Paul's Church, for details.

The Middle/Lower Keys Playgroup for Babies and Toddlers is a Facebook group that serves as a friendly homebase for mommys and daddys to find each other and get the kids together for playdates, and events.

Healing Life Change offers playgroups at The Historic Crane Point in Marathon. Playgroup events, like 'Tie-Dye Day' and 'Aromatherapy Bean Bags' are held from 1-4 pm on a specific Friday or Saturday each month. All ages are welcome, children under 5 with parent. $25 per participant. For more information, contact Katelynn Hudson by email or at 305-731-7100.

Marathon Playgroup is a free, educational playgroup for children up to age 4, their families and pregnant women. Sing songs, read books, learn baby sign language, and do developmentally appropriate crafts and activities. Key Largo Tot Time is the same program, different location.  It meets the 3rd Monday of the month at 10:30 am in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 99001 Overseas Highway, Key Largo.

MusikGarten program in Tavernier and Islamorada. The Tavernier MusikGarten class is held every Tuesday morning.  There are 2 class options, at 9 am and at 10 am. It is held at 167 Coconut Row, Tavernier, and Ms. Jan is the teacher. In Islamorada, MusikGarten is held at the fellowship hall of Matecumbe Methodist Church next to the Hurricane Monument. Class begins at 10 am.

The first class is free; after that the classes are $5, plus a materials fee.  There are several options for payment. The cost covers all family members, and you are welcome to come to both Monday Islamorada class and Tuesday class held in Tavernier.  Questions can be directed to Ms. Jan.

For parents living in the Upper Keys, BabyMoms Playgroup meets Wednesdays at 10:30 am and has other special events and activities.  In addition to the opportunity to connect in person with other moms and babies/toddlers at the weekly play group, this group serves as an online marketplace, bulletin board, support group and advice center. Open to families with babies through preschool age children. For more info or to join the group, please contact the group by email.

Keys Kids Playgroup in the Upper Keys Dates and Locations vary. Any child ages birth to 6 are welcome to come with their mom, dad or caretaker. Events are free unless at a park charging admission. The focus is on having fun playing with their little friends so they learn manners, sharing, cooperation and have great childhood memories. We also try to expose them to new things.
